Award-Session Genus GuitarsThe Genus Mission
Many of us have matured as players using classic American designed guitars made by a multitude of ‘me-too’ makers. But, as good as they all may be, most fail to bring anything we’ve not all seen or heard before from the originals.
Those classic fifty year old shapes do look good, no arguments there. However, with the exception of Paul Reed Smith and Parker, there have been few freshly designed guitars in recent years. Many makers opt to pinch Fender or Gibson designs and undercut them on price. At Genus, we are driven by original thinking. So, if you really want a Fender or Gibson looking guitar... please buy a Fender or Gibson.
Many veteran players have grown to want something a little... dare we say... different? Genus borrows the best from the past and applies fresh ideas to bring you an instrument that’s visually exciting and whose aesthetics are not encumbered by tradition. Whilst there is a lot you’ll find familiar in Genus instruments, our designer is not frightened to challenge conventional thinking.
So, Genus guitars are not for the guitarist who listens with his eyes. Nor those wishing to emulate their peers. There’re for players with the strength to venture somewhere else... those who dare. Maybe wanting to make a statement about who they are... and perhaps, have the potential to make a mark in the guitar playing world.
Above all, the sound of a Genus guitar shouts quality of materials and workmanship. They simply have a body of tone unlike any other guitar.
Read on if you recognise yourself in the words above!

J6M3 Styling - With An Eye On The Past
Award-Session Genus GuitarsIf you have something new to say in your music, then maybe, you need an instrument which reflects your outlook, without turning your back on old values.
The J6M3 is that instrument. A stunning modern guitar blending new with old.
For fifty years our forefathers have used basically the same set of instruments, which have largely remained unchanged... except for a handful of makers who replicate those designs, by making them from exotic woods and high quality parts.
Recent buying trends have seen many re-issue guitars that had almost been forgotten about, but have enjoyed renewed success. Confirming that guitarists are interested in alternative, but not necessarily just re-issue instruments. Some want a completely new look and sonic performance. The Genus J6M3 is a rare breed of modern guitar able to rise to that challenge. It looks absolutely fab... thanks to its individual construction and finishing methods.
It’s not heavy, but weighty enough to feel solid and well balanced.

J6M3’s Single Coil Pickups
Award-Session Genus GuitarsSingle coil pickups are, without doubt, the most popular for this style of instrument.
The pickups fitted are our own SCS62 units which we have been selling for eighteen months as a retro-fit set for Stratocaster style guitars. They are made in true 1960s spirit and feature stagger wound coils and Alnico 5 magnets. SCS62s give a bright spanky tonality which help make the guitar’s strings sound better for longer.
One of the common problems with classic guitars is that all three pickups are identical. This leads to a huge jump in bass output when the pickup selection is
changed from bridge to neck units. However, the J6M3 is supplied with a specially calibrated set of three pickups which will not cause this problem.

Take Two Guitars - And Tonally Combine Them!
Award-Session Genus GuitarsWe’ve taken the worlds most popular country and rock guitars and combined into a single instrument.
Well that’s almost true. Some small changes have been made to enhance the sounds and bring them closer to what guitarists expect from such a hybrid instrument. We’ve also added some unique passive electronics to help too. When you plug this baby in, you’ll instantly know where we’re coming from. Oh, and we’ve given the necks a 12 inch radius and twenty-two chunky frets to facilitate easy bending and vibrato.
The neck pickup gives that warm bell-like tone everyone loves and we’ve dealt with that sometimes bland sounding middle pickup, which has more bright than you’d normally expect from this style of guitar.
But... the bridge pickup is this guitars crowning glory! More Low E punch and balls than either of the leading country and rock guitars... but noticeably less piercing treble from the high E strings. A great balance of warmth and bight. And remember, all this from a British made instrument... not American!
Why not visit us to check one out for yourself. We are people you can talk to - how quaint - and discuss the many colour and hardware options you can have fitted to your custom made Genus instrument.

Controls
Award-Session Genus Guitars1: Five position pickup selector switch
2: Volume control
3: Tone control
4: MultiSound™ -six position selector switch MultiSound™
The Genus J6M3 is equipped with a combination of conventional controls and the
introduction of the Award-Session designed MultiSound™ pickup blend system bringing fifteen extra useable sounds/tones in addition to the normal five way switch.
MultiSound™ is a six position ‘click’ switch. The first three positions offer unique pickup blend selections and the last three position enable extra tonalities which are brought in or out using the TONE control.
Position 1: Neck and Bridge pickups.
Position 2: A unique blend of neck and bridge pickups to provide a BB King type sound. There are two variants depending on whether the five way switch is selecting the neck or bridge pickups. Further, the TONE control can be use in
this position to give either a single coil or humbucker like tone variations.
Position 3: Another unique blend of neck and bridge pickups to provide a Peter Green like tone. There are two variants depending on whether the five way switch is selecting the neck or bridge pickups. Further, the TONE control can
be use in this position to give either a single coil or humbucker like tone variations.
Position 4: This will give your five pickup selections a Mini Humbucker tonality when the TONE control is set to 1. Tonality is restored to normal when turned fully up to 10. You can set the TONE at intermediate settings for partial effect.
Position 5: This will give your five pickup selections a darker Jazz tonality when the TONE control is set to 1. Tonality is restored to normal when turned fully up to 10. You can set the TONE at intermediate settings for partial effect.
Position 6: This will give your five pickup selections a the tonality of a regular TONE control when the TONE control is set to 1. Tonality is restored to normal when turned fully up to 10. You can set the TONE at intermediate settings for
partial effect.
Positions 3-6 are particularly useful when the guitar is being used with deep distortion, as it enables the player to ‘tune’ the output of the guitar, which produces varying ‘pitches’ of smooth sustain similar to Eric Clapton’s ‘Woman Tone’.
Basic variants of these ‘tuning’ techniques are nothing new to the world of guitar sounds, in fact they are frequently used by Carlos Santana and Gary Moore, to name but a few. But MultiSound™ expands the idea and makes it much more easily attainable from a single coil pickup equipped guitar.
